Welcome to CatBird's Nest on Virginia's Beautiful Eastern Shore

Welcome to CatBird's Nest, located on Ridge Road, Chincoteague Island, Virginia.  Chincoteague is a magical place, nestled at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean -- the gem of the Delmarva Peninsula.  Once a hard-working fishing village,  Chincoteague has managed to keep its quaintness and slow-paced style of living.

CatBird's Nest is a traditional Chincoteague fisherman's cottage, with the original white clapboard siding.  It is located just a very short distance down a sand-covered lane, to the town dock/boat launch and Memorial Park, which has a covered pavilion for picnics and playground equipment for children.  It is a short drive to the Assateague National Seashore, whose pristine beaches are as uncommercialized and as beautiful as the day God made them.

Memorial Park is the landing location for the famous Chincoteague Pony Swim, which takes place annually during the last week of July.  The ponies belong to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, and their offspring are auctioned off by the Saltwater Cowboys for the benefit of the fire company, providing its main source of revenue.  The population of this small island swells expotentially during this popular event.  An air of festive excitement and expectation abounds.    Book CatBird's nest very early for pony swim week because it is in a prime location, within a short walking distance (less than a city block) to the park.
